Just hit me what could help reduce spam potentially - have the Trade Channel chat appear in its own window. Yes, this will take up more screen real estate, but in a town that isn't really so important.

I propose uncoupling Trade Chat from the default chat box. Whenever you go into a town a new Trade Chat window appears, which takes up a lot more of the screen by default. You can have this toggleable like normal, so it doesn't have to appear when you go into a town

I think one of the major reasons there is so much spam - most people have their chat box at the default dimensions and position, so only a few lines scroll past and their WTS/WTB is pushed "off screen", so they spam it again, which triggers a vicious circle as others do the same to keep their advert visible.

This second trade window would help alleviate that problem, without impacting the normal chat box.

More screen real estate for trade chat = their advert is up for longer/doesn't scroll off so quick = less spam.

The toggle ability of course means it doesn't intrude on those who don't want it.

It won't solve the Local Chat trade abusers, but should help with the normal Trade Chat spam. As a further benefit, it could pave the way for an Auction House window...

Maybe not have in the middle like that, maybe to the side or something so you can still see where you're going, but you get the general idea
